When it comes to finding the right Big Canoe® realtor to help you buy or sell a home, subtle impressions are more important than you would think. That’s because, as important as your realtor’s background and experience are, you’ll have a lot easier time if you have personality styles that work well together.
With that being said, however, there are a few things you should definitely ask any realtor you meet with before you start working with them. Here are a few questions you want to be sure to get answers to:
How long have you worked in this area? There’s nothing wrong with having a realtor who’s new to the business, or new to the area, but by asking this question you can get a sense of how well they know the neighborhoods you’re looking at. If you already know all about the area you want to move into, then local knowledge probably isn’t that important. But if you need someone to point the way, look for a little experience.
What kind of clients do you normally work with? This is another question that may or may not be important to you based on your particular situation, but know that some realtors specialize in a certain type of client – growing families, first-time homebuyers, or recent retirees, for example. Finding out what kind of clients your realtor normally takes is a good way to get a sense of whether they’re likely to understand what you’re looking for.
What do you enjoy about being a realtor? This is actually a little bit of a trick question. That’s because it doesn’t really matter what your prospective realtor says, so long as they have some kind of answer. There are people who get into the real estate industry because they think it’s an easy way to make some money, or can’t think of anything else to do. That’s not the kind of person you want helping you choose your next home.
